Sage Rat: A small ground squirrel that has excellent taste.
Unconventional approachability
Sage Rat makes its nest in the unique space where unconventional meets approachability. Our goal is to make low abv, crisp,ready-for-anything wines that are food-friendly and intended to be enjoyed now. We work closely with local growers here in our home, the Yakima Valley, who are aligned with our vision for a more sustainable future to offer you unique minimal intervention wines that are genuinely user-friendly.
DEEPLY ROOTED
At our core, we are deeply rooted in the Yakima Valley, the pioneering grape-growing region with a rich history and diverse terrain. We celebrate the Valley’s unique climate, from its cool zones to its hot spots. Our commitment to the region is reflected in our partnership with growers who practice sustainability, fair wages, and excellent working conditions.
Dusty & WHITNEY
Dusty was born and raised in the heart of Washington's grape country, the Yakima Valley. His over 15 years of experience in wine-making in the Pacific Northwest includes harvest experiences at Seven Hills and Antica Terra. His commitment to sustainable practices and minimal intervention has resulted in approachable wines utilizing unexpected varietals that reflect the unique characteristics of the Yakima Valley. Dusty is currently the head winemaker at family-owned Gilbert Cellars.
Whitney was born and raised and has lived all over the great state of Washington. With over 12 years of hands-on work experience on small organic farms, she developed a deep appreciation for the land and its produce. She has recently transitioned from the field to the office, handling administrative and bookkeeping roles for several farmers, non-profits, and a small winery, as well as for Sage Rat.
Dusty and Whitney currently live among the valley vineyards on their small farm with their tiny fox-dog, Tink and their gang of barn cats.
